Richard Diedrich, Acrylic, Watercolor on Canvas 404-307-6828

The painting series, Man on the Edge, started as a literal expression and mapping of where the water meets the land and man's propensity to settle there, as in Naples. Now, the canvases are beautifully actualized by the artist's process, in which he pours liquid acrylic and watercolor, one glaze after another, to create edges where exquisite passages pool and recede at the edges after they unfurl, revealing themselves in transparent veils of color sensation and gesture. In the end, this process, this exploration has led the artist to a deeper, richer sense of place, beyond the abstract quotation of landscape or the representation of a theoretical painting process, but to revealing a mystical place that we may enter and join in.

Diedrich is also painting historic houses of Atlanta and Naples. Many of his watercolors are featured in his latest book, The Storied Houses of Historic Brookhaven.

In her small working studio and gallery, both in Naples and in Green Lake, WI, she asks herself "What would I like to see on my own walls?" The energy in her paintings comes from loving the subjects of which she paints, like people enjoying the beach; Florida architecture; the midwests' awesome landscapes; abstracted flowers. The Bay Area Figurative movement has had a strong influence in her style of painting: loose, impressionistic, and bold trying to capture the contemporary energy of places and people in them.
She began studing art 20 years ago after a career as a designer and principal of a womans national clothing company. She studied at the Milwaukee School of Art and Design and with various nationally acclaimed painters over the years and has won several awards in juried shows. Her website shows better than words can tell about her painting style.
